How to Turn a Blog Post Into a Narrated Video With AI

A step-by-step workflow for repurposing a written article into a short narrated video, from script adaptation to voice, visuals, and final review.

Updated 2 minute read

A good article already contains most of what a short video needs: a clear point, supporting ideas, and a call to action. This workflow shows how to adapt one into a narrated video using AI tools at each stage, while keeping a person in charge of quality.

What you need

  • A published article you own or have rights to repurpose.
  • An AI assistant for drafting, such as ChatGPT.
  • A voice tool, such as ElevenLabs or Murf AI, if your video tool’s built-in voices are not enough.
  • A video tool that works from text, such as Pictory, or from a script with a presenter, such as HeyGen.

Step 1: Decide the video’s single goal

Pick one outcome: explain a concept, promote the full article, or teach a single tip. A two-minute video can carry one idea well; it cannot carry the whole article.

Step 2: Adapt the article into a spoken script

Ask your AI assistant to condense the article into a script of roughly 250 to 300 words, written to be spoken aloud, with a hook in the first sentence and a clear closing line. Then edit it yourself. Check every fact against the original article, and apply the techniques in our guide to writing scripts for AI voiceovers.

Step 3: Break the script into scenes

Split the script into short scenes of one or two sentences each. For every scene, note what the viewer should see: a key phrase on screen, a product shot, a chart, or a presenter. Scene-based tools work best with this structure.

Step 4: Generate narration

Use your video tool’s voices or a dedicated voice tool. Generate scene by scene so that a single wrong pronunciation does not mean regenerating everything. Only use a custom voice if you have the rights and consent to do so.

Step 5: Assemble visuals and captions

Bring the script and audio into your video tool. Replace any automatically matched visuals that do not fit the message, add captions, and apply your brand settings. Confirm the licensing terms for any stock or generated visuals.

Step 6: Review before publishing

  • Watch the full video with sound on and with sound off.
  • Check names, numbers, and claims against the source article.
  • Confirm captions are accurate and readable on a phone.
  • Link back to the original article in the video description.
